We know that working in the legal profession can be demanding, which may lead to some practitioners turning to alcohol as a coping mechanism. Enjoying a drink can, for many, be a harmless pleasure, but it’s not always obvious when you are drinking too much. Your alcohol consumption could be affecting you in a number of ways that you didn’t even realise, such as weight gain, lack of sleep and difficulty concentrating.
The recommended safe number of units of alcohol to be consumed in a week is 14 for men and women, and these should be spread over the course of a week. Regularly consuming over 2-3 units a day – one large glass of wine or a pint of beer – can be detrimental to health. However, those with alcohol dependency will drink considerably more than that.
